When you hear the word gelatin, you may think of the jiggly-bright colored Jello-O desserts or of the fluffy marshmallow snacks you grew up with. What if we told you gelatin is exceptionally healthy for you and can provide amazing benefits for your body. More recently, people are catching on to this health and beauty secret. Over the past few years, gelatin has become less of an overlooked gem and more of a dietary staple for many. You may have enjoyed a bowl of bone broth this past winter, as its popularity has landed itself on the dinner table for many the past few years. If so, then yes, you are already well on the gelatin train. If you still have not caught on, we are sure you will be on board by the end of reading this.

At Amandean, we understand that beef gelatin is full of health and beauty benefits, so today, we will take a moment to highlight this protein powerhouse and give it it's time to shine. Let's discuss what beef gelatin is, and why almost everyone should be incorporating Amandean Beef Gelatin into their routines.

    What is Gelatin, anyway?

If we said animal skin, bones, and cartilages, you might be ready to stop reading, and we get it. It may sound a bit odd, but you will want to read on. Gelatin is the protein-packed byproduct that comes from cooking the collagenous joints, tendons, and connective tissue of an animal. Collagen, the most prominent protein in the body, is responsible for the infrastructure of the musculoskeletal system. It is the building material that renews cells in the body. Simply put, out with the old cells and in with the new.

The boiling process of collagen breaks down into gelatin and produces the translucent, flavorless substance that turns to gel once it is cold. It is present in many things we eat such as gummy bears, fruit snacks, even some cereals, but is most commonly known to be present in Jello-O. You may also notice it when you see your leftover beef soup gelling over a bit.

Gelatin carries many of the health benefits of collagen. Both contain similar amino acids that are essential for our bodies; however, it is necessary to clarify that gelatin and collagen have differences. When hydrolyzed, the protein in collagen breaks down into smaller pieces and dissolves in hot or cold liquids. In contrast, beef gelatin dissolves quickly into hot liquids but gels or thickens in cold liquids.

    Amino Acids

The 18 amino acids found in gelatin drive the positive benefits that make gelatin a must-have. You can expect to find valine, arginine, alanine, and lysine in gelatin, amongst many others. Many of these amino acids, such as glycine and proline, are essential for our bodies, however, most people do not get enough of them; especially as we age. Glycine and proline are two essential amino acids that are responsible for the fibrous structure of collagen. When we lack the two, we begin to show common signs of aging in the body and the skin. This is the reason why many look at gelatin as an anti-aging secret weapon in their combat against fine lines and wrinkles and other aging signs.

    Beef Gelatin Benefits

It should be clear at this point that beef gelatin has many benefits for many areas of the body.

    Skin

The glycine and proline mentioned before promote the production of collagen, which leaves the skin feeling firm, youthful, and healthy.

    Stronger Bones

Lysine, found in gelatin, aids in the absorption of calcium, keeping the bones healthy, and reducing the risk of weak and brittle bones caused by conditions such as osteoporosis.

    Managing Joint Pain

If you are an athlete, you may be very familiar with the fantastic effects gelatin has on reducing inflammation and pain in the joints. Those who suffer from arthritis will greatly benefit by including a gelatin supplement into their diet due to the anti-inflammation properties that gelatin has.

    Gut Health

Gelatin helps maintain a healthy gut. It enhances gastric acid secretion and restores healthy mucosal lining in the stomach, which promotes the production of gastric fluid, improving digestion and healthy bowel movements.

    Manages Appetite

If you are trying to manage weight, gelatin is good to incorporate into your routine. Gelatin is not only low-calorie but also helps control the hormones that are related to hunger and it helps us to stay satiated between meals.

    Quality Sleep

Glycine is found to help improve and promote deep sleep. With glycine being very prominent in gelatin, gelatin can be used as a sleep aidwithout the grogginess that comes with many other sleeping aids.

How to get your dose of Beef Gelatin

There are a plethora of ways to incorporate this supplement that are effortless, even for those in need of paleo and keto-friendly ideas. Beef gelatin is a natural thickening agent that can add to a plethora of yummy recipes for meals, baked, goods, and tasty snacks!
