What is collagen, exactly?

Collagen is a protein found everywhere in our bodies, making up over 60% of our total protein. Collagen protein contains 18 amino acids, including proline, arginine, glycine and hydroxyproline. These promote rebuilding, rejuvenation and growth in: Skin, Muscles, Hair, Joints, Nails, Hearts, Liver, Prostate, Blood, Cells and Lungs.

Unfortunately our body’s collagen production drops off as we grow older. By age 40, our collagen depletes faster than it is produced, and by age 60 we only produce 50% of the collagen we did at age 30. That’s a significant decrease.

How do I take Amandean collagen?

Collagen peptides dissolve into liquids, meaning it can be mixed into smoothies, soups or even some baked goods. Collagen is tasteless, so your meal will be as edible as it was before.

How is Amandean collagen produced?

Our collagen is sourced from 100% pasture raised grass fed South American cows. It is non-GMO, contains no gluten, wheat, corn, eggs, dairy, soy, or yeast. We rigorously tested for purity and packaged in the USA at a state of the art FDA-cGMP compliant facility.

Is Amandean Collagen Natural and Free of Contaminants?

YES. Our hydrolyzed collagen is 100% all-natural collagen and free of pesticides, hormones, chemicals and contaminants. Amandean collagen contains no additives.

Is BSE a concern with your Bovine Collagen Peptides or Grass-Fed Beef Gelatin?

BSE, popularly referred to as Mad Cow Disease, has been in the news recently and prompted many collagen fans to worry about the susceptibility of their products.

The bottom line: The US Animal and Plant Health inspection Service (APHIS) ensures that all animal products imported into the USA satisfy their unyielding health standards, without any health risks, following the guidelines put forth by the Organization for Animal Health (OIE). The OIE conducted a comprehensive study on BSE and its affects on bovine products like collagen and gelatin. The study revealed that there is near zero risk of BSE transmission in food products such as milk, gelatin, and other hide based or boneless originated products.

In addition, the March 16th 2012 US Department of Agriculture report states that the manufacturing process of Gelatin and Collagen further decreases the risk of BSE infection beyond the conclusions of the OIE.

What is the molecular weight?

5000 Daltons for Beef Collagen
3000 Daltons for Marine Collagen

What does pasture raised mean?

From birth, our cattle are raised on lush grasslands, giving them space, areas to graze and freedom to roam. Stress-free cows means a better product.

What countries do the cattle come from?

From South America, including Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay. With abundant open pastures, these countries favor grass-fed grazing for their cattle. We select the best of these farms and source our bovine hides from there.

Are Amandean’s collagen peptides hydrolyzed using heat or are they enzymatically processed?

They are enzymatically processed, which is the best way to keep the health benefits intact.

Can I take collagen with other prescriptions or medications?

We recommend that you consult your Doctor before mixing any or our products with your current prescriptions or medications.

Can my children take collagen?

We highly recommend that you talk with your pediatrician before introducing your children to collagen, as each child’s nutritional needs will differ.

How do collagen peptides differ from gelatin?

Collagen peptides dissolve in hot or cold liquid, whereas gelatin can only mix in hot liquids but will return to its gel state once the liquid cools. In a health context they are very similar, although the shorter amino acid chains in collagen peptides are a little easier to absorb for our bodies.

How should I store collagen?

It is recommended to store in a cool, dark area away from moisture.

I am new to collagen, which product should I start with?

Each of our collagen products offer different applications, which you should consider before making a purchase:

Beef Gelatin is ideal for cooking & baking as it blooms in hot liquids and can be used for soups, broths, and baking.

Marine Collagen & Collagen Peptides are both cold & hot-water soluble and are easy to mix in coffee, smoothies, and juices.

Although the benefits of our collagen products are similar, beef gelatin has longer protein chains which can travel further down the intestinal tract before being absorbed, therefore having a greater effect on gut health.

What is the difference between Beef Collagen & Marine Collagen?

The difference is the animal source of the protein. Amandean's Collagen Peptides and Beef Gelatin contain collagen protein found in grass-fed cows. It's almost identical to the kind of collagen we have in our bodies, which is what makes it such a popular and effective dietary supplement.

Marine Collagen is derived from the skins of wild-caught Atlantic fish and offer the similiar health benefits as collagen from cows. Marine Collagen has shown to have up to 150% more bioavailability in humans making it a popular choice as a supplement.

Are your Marine Collagen Halal Friendly?

Amandean doesn't have an official halal certification for our marine collagen powder, but the (only) ingredient used in our Marine Collagen is certified halal. It’s made from the skins of wild-caught cod, and manufactured in a facility that only makes fish collagen & gelatin, so there is no cross-contamination with any other animals. Our final packaging takes place at a cGMP certified facility in the US. We just don’t pay for the certification at the time of packaging, so that is why we can’t claim that it’s “certified”.

What's the difference between multi-collagen & regular collagen?

Once collagen is hydrolyzed (broken down into short chain amino acids, aka peptides), it is very difficult to actually tell the different types of collagen apart. The way that a collagen supplements work, is that some of the amino acids trigger a response in your body to start producing more collagen, so it’s not like you are just replacing lost collagen directly from taking the supplement itself. The main thing about the multi-collagens are in the sources of where the collagen is derived from (marine, bovine, porcine, poultry cartilage, egg shell membranes, etc.). These are different types of collagen to start with, but once it’s processed into a collagen supplement (powder, peptides, protein, hydrolysate, they are all the same), it’s really about impossible to tell the different types apart. They all contain the same 18 amino acids (albeit in slightly different ratios), so it doesn’t make that much difference, as it’s the amino acids that are prompting your body to produce more collagen.

The downsides of using a multi-collagen are that the sources of the ingredients, especially when sourced from chicken are often from China or India. Often the fish portion comes from farm-raised tilapia. Amandean is committed to the cleanest and most sustainably-sourced ingredients so for this reason, we have stuck with single-sourced collagen peptides from marine & bovine sources. The other downside to multi-collagen is that they have a reputation for being unpleasant in taste and therefore less appealing than a normal collagen supplement.

Do you perform testing on your products?

All our Amandean products are rigorously tested for quality and purity in the USA in registered facilities. We adhere to cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practices).

When do products expire?

Most of our products have a 4-5-year shelf-life. Best by dates are printed clearly on the bottom of each product container.

Are Amandean Products Vegan?

Where can I purchase Amandean products?

What is the difference between regular Vitamin C and Liposomal Vitamin C?

Liposomal Vitamin C is significantly more bioavailable (up to 90%) in the body, meaning it has a higher absorption rate than traditional forms of Vitamin C capsules, tablets, or pills, which have a much lower absorption rate of approx. 20%

Liposomal Encapsulation Technology (LET) allows for more effective delivery of nutrients ( Vitamin C ) directly into the cells, rather than having to be absorbed the conventional way through transport proteins. This delivery system results in higher bioavailability and increased absorption, making Liposomal Vitamin C much more effective.

What is LET?

LET stands for Liposomal Encapsulation Technology – it’s the term used to describe the delivery system that delivers Vitamin C nutrients directly to your cells.

What is a Liposome?

Liposomes are submicroscopic fat-soluble spheres, resembling tiny cells, with Vitamin C intentionally trapped inside the water-soluble center. Amandean's Liposomes are 50nm in size allowing them to optimally deliver the vitamin C directly into other cells in the bloodstream. The body normally excretes excess vitamin C in regular forms, but our advanced liposomal delivery allows the body to utilize almost all of the dosage delivered. Amandean's Liposomes are created using a class of essential phospholipids called Phosphatidylcholine (pronounced FOSS fah tie dal KO lean), sourced from the highest quality non-GMO sunflower oil lecithin.

Is Liposomal Vitamin C Vegan?

Yes, Amandean's Liposomal Vitamin C is vegan, soy-free, and sugar-free. It is also a non-GMO product.

What is the best way to take Liposomal Vitamin C?

We recommend taking Liposomal Vitamin C by mixing them into juice, or water. You can even take it on its own.  Just don’t mix it with cranberry juice – it destroys the liposome.

Glutathione is a safe supplement and essential for even the most basic immune function. Depleted levels of Glutathione can cause serious illness. As with all our premium supplements we recommend ALL users consult a healthcare professional before incorporating Liposomal Glutathione into their daily diet.

What is the difference between regular Glutathione and Liposomal Glutathione?

Liposomal Glutathione is encapsulated, which means it has been naturally “trapped” inside microscopic spheres called liposomes. Liposomes deliver the glutathione directly into the cells in the bloodstream, whereas traditional forms of glutathione are largely excreted by the body. Liposomal delivery also protects the fragile Glutathione molecules from being damaged in the intestinal tract by stomach acids, allowing it to be absorbed intact and at a higher rate of absorption. Liposomal delivery increases the bioavailability of glutathione to comparable levels with IV Vitamin treatments without a substantial price tag or the administration of needles.

Why should you take
Liposomal Glutathione?

You can read more about the specific anti-aging & health benefits here. At the most basic level Glutathione is essential in preventing chronic and serious illnesses. We all have consistent exposure to airborne pollutants, radiation from electronics, heavy metals from fillings or foods, which lowers the glutathion levels in our bodies to low or deficient levels. Raising your glutathione levels is the number one defense against the accumulation of toxins and metals, and preventing countless illnesses.

Can very ill people take Liposomal Glutathione?

YES. Every ill person has one thing in common no matter the illness: depleted levels of glutathione. Levels are depleted when fighting off illness and taking a highly bioavailable form will help to replenish these levels over time. Glutathione is a basic building block for our immune system and is of critical importance when suffering from a sickness or serious illness.

If I'm young & healthy, should I still consider taking Liposomal Glutathione?

Everyone can benefit from incorporating a glutathione supplement into their diet. Even if you're healthy and not managing any serious health issues, you will be promoting a strong immune system to ward off future illness, while also boosting energy levels for a more active lifestyle. The large quantity of health benefits of Liposomal GSH will help EVERYONE no matter what their state of health.

What does Liposomal Glutathione look & taste like?

Liposomal Glutathione has a cloudy yellow coloring. It naturally has a “sulfur-like” taste and smell due to its sulfur content. The potent taste of glutathione can make it a difficult supplement to consume on its own so we always recommend mixing 1 teaspoon into a fruit juice or drink. Pear juice is especially recommended because it masks the flavor.

Do Vegan Omega 3 supplements work the same as Fish Omega-3?

Both Fish and Marine Algae are rich sources of EPA & DPA, which offer substantial health benefits, but fish omega 3 does have slightly higher levels of DHA & EPA. However, fish ingest EPA/DHA from eating algae, whereas harvesting algae as the direct source means that you still retain a potent source of DHA and EPA without all the processing. The purest source of Omega-3 comes from Algae, not fish, but the 2 products offer almost identical benefits.

Is Vegan Omega-3 safer than fish oil?

Even though omega 3’s from fish are ideally extracted from wild fish (not farmed), there is no control over what they consume in the ocean, which has become increasingly at risk. For this reason there is a higher risk of contamination from heavy metals or mercury than what occurs in plant-based Omega-3 sources. Amandean’s Vegan Omega-3 oil is sourced from marine algae grown in a lab-controlled environment, where no contaminants threaten to make it unsafe. 100% of the algae we use is fed premium nutrients and it’s rigorously tested for purity under cGMP standards.

Are there any other ingredients in the product apart from algae?

Every bottle of Vegan Omega-3 also contains small amounts of purified water, non-GMO starch, glycerin, food grade seaweed extract, rosemary oil extract (preservative), ascorbyl palmitate (fat soluble Vitamin C), and tocopherols (Vitamin E). These ingredients help to formulate the capsule, which make the delivery of EPA and DHA more bioavailable.

Why would I choose Vegan Omega-3 over Fish if I’m not a Vegan or Vegetarian?

Vegan sources of Omega-3 are more eco-friendly than fish-sources, which make the product more sustainable than Omega-3 from fish oils. Additionally, many customers who have switched from Fish to Algae sources do so to avoid possible fish-tasting burps, which occur from fish oil products. No more fish burps!

How much Vegan Omega-3 should I take?

Take 2 capsules daily, or as directed by a health professional. If you want to be a pro, take Omega-3 with a meal (not on an empty stomach). It’s also best to take at breakfast or lunch but not in the evening. And avoid taking Omega-3 right before you exercise.

How should I store my Omega-3 supplement?

All polyunsaturated fats are susceptible to damage from heat, including the algal oil in Vegan Omega-3. Be certain to store in a cool place out of direct sunlight and once you open the bottle, store it in the refrigerator. If unopened, your bottle of Omega-3 has a shelf life of 2 years.

Why is it important to take an Omega-3 supplement with both DHA & EPA?

When shopping around for an Omega-3 supplement you’ll notice that many Vegan varieties only contain DHA and not EPA. Amandean’s Vegan Omega-3 contains both DHA & EPA, which ensures we’re consuming a healthy balance of Omega 3 & 6 combined, the ideal ratio being approx. 1-4:1. Most western diets contain a ratio in and around 1:10, and even 1:20 in some cases. What this means is that, while we’re neglecting omega-3s which are absolutely essential to our health, the problem is in excess consumption of omega-6 fatty acids. Supplementing with a balance of the two ensures we are getting the anti-inflammatory effects, lipid mediator activity, and energy production benefits only produced when both DHA & EPA are present.

How much DHA & EPA is in your Vegan Omega-3 Supplement?

In each 500mg softgel capsule, there is 150mg of DHA and 75mg of EPA

I’m pregnant, can I take a Vegan Omega-3 supplement?

As with ANY supplement, and especially when pregnant, you should speak with your health care professional before adding an Omega-3 supplement to your daily nutrition. Omega-3’s are often used as a pre-natal supplement which can have positive effects on visual and cognitive development of the baby. Studies have also shown that higher consumption of omega-3s may reduce the risk of allergies in infants.

Can I combine Vegan Omega-3 with any of your other products?

Absolutely. Combining our Vegan Omega-3 with any of our premium collagen supplements is an excellent way to boost and maintain collagen levels in the body as you age as Omega-3’s can help to reduce degradation of collagen in the body.
