Once collagen is hydrolyzed (broken down into short chain amino acids, aka peptides), it is very difficult to actually tell the different types of collagen apart. The way that a collagen supplements work, is that some of the amino acids trigger a response in your body to start producing more collagen, so it’s not like you are just replacing lost collagen directly from taking the supplement itself. The main thing about the multi-collagens are in the sources of where the collagen is derived from (marine, bovine, porcine, poultry cartilage, egg shell membranes, etc.).
